Sword Knot – 18/19th Century, American.
In the last quarter of the 18th Century more ornate sword knots for officer’s use made their appearance. These items were made of woven gold and/or silver wire rather than the traditional leather. Although a number of variants existed, our sword knot was one of the most popular. This is an American Officer’s model with a tassel of blue twisted fringe surrounded by a layer of 1/4″ or 3/8″ dia. gold bullion fringe secured in a tube-type crown in silver wire and blue silk. The wrist loop is made of 5/8″ wide flat silver wire braid with 3 parallel lines of blue silk.
